Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling 3/31/2024

Drew Abenhaus and Lucky P. Parson welcome us to the show. Larson said he manages the two best tag teams in the world. He accuses The Top Guns of running away from The LA Hustlers last week.

Shogun vs Glenn Williams

Shogun wristlocks Glenn and Glenn reverses it. Glenn double wristlocks him and Shogun hammerlocks him. Shogun hits armdrags then Glenn eye rakes him. Glenn single arm ddt's Shogun then hits a stiff pepsi twist lariat. Shogun shockingly kicks out at 2.

Glenn traphezus holds him then clubs his back. Glenn runs into the buckles chest first and Shogun rolls him up for 2. Glenn hits a cobra clutch russian legsweep and wins it.

Shogun got some offense in here which was surprising and more than he had gotten all year. Glenn got the win here as expected and it was nice to see him hit his finisher.

Glenn Williams and Sean Vincent are interviewed. Glenn said he's been to New Japan and claimed he just beat Okada in a match. He said Shogun is Okada and said he just gave us a 5 star match. Sean calls him Bill Apter. Sean said they've been on a roll in 2024 and haven't lost a singles or tag match. Glenn said they haven't lost in 6 months.

Glenn said they finally get to see who the best team is here and it's The Eh Team (their team). Sean talks about The Top Guns. He said their belts are coming home to Canada and it's destiny when they meet. Glenn says this is more than just a match, it's personal. Glenn said he brought Joey Vinetti in here and he ditched him for Brandon Baretta. He said there's history here and said he will finally put some respect on tag team wrestling around here.  Sean said they are bigger than The Briscoes and The Road Warriors, they are The Eh Team.

The stuff with Okada and 5 star matches was weird. It felt like that was some kind of inside remark at someone.

Billy McNeil vs Richard Shaw

Shaw rushes Billy and clubs on him. Shaw hits corner spears. Shaw blue thunders him then splashes him. Billy shiranui's him then hits a top rope elbow drop on Shaw's neck. Billy then picks up the win.

It was a quick squash with Shaw being beaten quickly as usual. Shaw didn't even get this jacket off here.

The Top Guns are interviewed by Drew Ebenhouse. Brandon Baretta said last week was not how they like to retain tag titles but it was needed. Brandon says their feud with The LA Hustlers isn't over and invites them to come get some if they want some. Joey Vinetti said they didn't want the match to end the way it did last week. He said they want to defend the tag titles fair and square.

Drew tells them are fighting Sean Vincent and Glenn Williams next. Brandon says Sean Vincent taught him some of the basics and said he looked at him as a mentor. He said this is personal. He said he looked up to Sean and said Sean turned his back on the fans.

Joey says him and Glenn started 2 years ago at the Ace Wrestling Academy. He said he's not about Glenn's antics. Drew talks them wanting a shot at the AIWF tag titles. Brandon said they are early in their careers but said the future is the AIWF tag titles. Brandon said they'd love a shot at their titles. Joey said they are coming for the tag titles.

Sean Vincent vs Kenny Kingston

I'm legit curious how Sean's going to deal with the much bigger Kenny. Kenny struts around the ring. Sean slaps Kenny then hits a combo in the corner. Kenny pushes him off then throws him across the ring. Sean hits leg kicks on Kenny then Sean does a fantastic bump for a forearm.

Kenny clubs on Sean then samoan drops him. Kenny gets a close 2 count. Kenny goes for a splash and Sean pulls the ref in the way. Sean boots Kenny in the gut with what they say is a loaded boot and Sean wins it. Kenny holds his gut in pain after.

I didn't love the finish here as Kenny's big and you couldn't really see the boot get loaded that well. It was just hard to buy Sean got through all that weight. Sean's bump off the forearm was perfect here and it was fun to see Sean try to work around the much bigger Kenny.

The Big Texan is interviewed by Drew. He said there is always a target on his back as the Classic champ. He said the lariat is coming for Payton Ayres and talked about how he thought Bull Bronson was a friend. Texan said Bull turned on him and Drew says Bull thought Texan turned on him. Drew talks about how Texan nailed Bull on accident. Texan said Bull didn't get hit with the full lariat but when he does, he might change his tune.

Promoter's Corner- Wrestling at the Chase - JJ Dillion and Mike Kelly vs Rufus R. Jones and Kerry Von Erich

"Superstar" Steve Fender and Bull Bronson vs "Night Train" Gary Jackson and Bobby D

Fender is the SICW Central States champ and the AWIF National champ. Steve and Gary lock up. Gary backs him up then hammerlocks him. Steve ropebreaks. Steve hiptosses him then Gary armdrags him. Gary rakes Bobby's back then they trade chops.

Bobby slams Steve then misses an elbow drop. They stand off. Bull headbutts Bobby then Bobby dropkicks him. Bull running double throat thrusts him. bobby back elbows him then suplexes him. Steve takes a double back elbow then Gary slams Steve. Gary misses an elbow drop on Steve then Bull comes in and face kicks Gary.

Bull clubs on Gary's back then Bull hits some shoulders. Bull splashes Gary for 2. Bull chinlocks Gary then Steve splashes Gary. Steve snapmares him then Steve stomps on Gary. Gary hits shots to the gut then Steve boots him while he's bent over.

Bull rakes Gary's face. Gary takes a bodyblock from Bull. Bull chokes Gary then Gary hits forearms. Bully hits some shots back and Steve gets a 2 count on Gary. Gary is double teamed then Gary sunset flips Steve. Steve tries to butt drop him but misses.

Bobby gets the hot tag in and beats up the heels. Bobby runs corner to corner with attacks then powerslams Steve. Bobby germans Steve for 2. Bull throws Bobby over the top and gets disqualified for it.

Gary gets beaten up on after then The Big Texan comes out to help. Bull and Texan stare down and shove each other. Texan teases hitting him and they stare down. Bull shoves him and leaves to close the show.

Well, it would have been nice to get a clean winner there but what we got wasn't bad with Gary beaten up on then hot tagging in Bobby. Bobby cleaned house on the heels then Bull threw him out for the DQ. There was nothing wrong with this one and it was a decent main. I liked the segment after with Bull and Texan as they didn't quite come to blows and left you wondering what will happen when they do meet up again.

Overall thoughts: A fun show as always. The main was fine (though the finish wasn't clean) and Larson/Drew were entertaining as always. I liked the ending will Bull and Texan. I wouldn't say it was must see, but I did enjoy it.
